Frequently Asked Questions

What will be done with the money that is raised from the Bike Columbus Festival?

The Institute for Active Living at Columbus Public Health works to increase access to nutritious food and opportunities for physical activity in neighborhoods with health disparities. It will use the money to purchase bicycles and other other physical activity equipment that youth may use daily at recreation centers, parks, and gymnasiums. It is also used to support farmer’s markets and community gardens. Consider Biking will use proceeds to support safety and awareness campaigns for cyclists on our roads. The Steve Barbour Memorial Fund will be used to provide education, encouragement and infrastructure needs to increase safety of bicyclists on our roads.

Would you tell me more about the Twilight Ride?

The Twilight Ride will begin at City Hall and end at a secure parking lot at Gay Street and 3rd Street for an after party. This recreational ride has something to offer for all levels of cyclists, from beginners to experienced veterans. You can either join the 12 mile ride that will have you back before sundown or the 25 mile ride that will take you through German Village, OSU campus, the Arena District, and some of the cities beautiful new parks. Mayor Michael B. Coleman, thanks to sponsors AEP and Trek, will lead Columbus’ finest night ride for the second consecutive year. This year we are featuring an after party hosted by the businesses of Gay street where you can enjoy free food, music, and a night of fun sponsored by Capital Crossroads!

Would you tell me more about the Barbour Memorial Tour?

The tour is mostly flat for the first 30 and last 30 miles. The middle 60 miles will have some climbs but nothing over 10%. The longest climb will be in Tar Hollow State Park which is 1 mile long but only 5-6% grade. The route from Columbus to Circleville and Circleville to Columbus will follow a route similar to the TOSRV route from Columbus to Circleville. The route from Circleville to Laurelville  to Columbus will have some hills but no hills over 10%.  Lunch/Snack stops in Lockbourne, Circleville and Laurelville.  Watch this 2010 Memorial Tour Video for additional details about Steve Barbour and the event honoring his legacy.

When does “Advance Registration End” and what if I miss that deadline?

Advance Online Registration ends Saturday July 9  at 11:59 pm; Mail in Registrations need to be received by July 9 as well.  Onsite registration will be available.   The ‘day of ride’ fee for the Twilight Ride is $30 and the Steve Barbour Memorial Tour is also $30.  The discounted Combo rate (for both rides) is not available for ‘day of ride’ registration, so register today and SAVE!  If you’ve missed the registration date for in store pickup (after July 9), we can still arrange for you to receive the discount during pickup days; we’ll just  need to confirm that you have registered online.   Call Consider Biking to make arrangements.

If I do one of the Barbour Memorial shorter routes, will I need to find transportation back to the start?

No, on Saturday all routes regardless of distance will start and END at Bicentennial Park (Note: The Twilight ride on Friday will start and end at City Hall)
